About
Faculty of Computing
The Faculty of Computing was established in January 2025 as part of the organizational restructuring of Visayas State University, bringing together computing-related academic units that were previously under separate colleges and campuses. The Department of Computer Science and Technology, formerly under the College of Engineering and Technology at the VSU Main Campus in Baybay City, became part of the newly created Faculty together with the Departments of Information Technology from VSU Alangalang and VSU Isabel.
FOC serves as VSU's academic unit for specialized instruction in computing across its Main, Alangalang, and Isabel campuses. Its academic focus covers software development, computer hardware and systems, computing theories and foundations, and the societal and ethical implications of technology. Through its constituent departments, it prepares students with the knowledge and practical competencies needed to address evolving technological needs while supporting VSU's broader goals in instruction, research, innovation, and community engagement.
As a relatively young academic unit, FOC continues to develop and harmonize its internal policies, standards, and academic processes, and has organized two annual research colloquiums since its establishment. Its professors and instructors bring expertise in software engineering, intelligent systems, graphics and visual computing, computer architecture, and computer networks, while research initiatives focus on ICT-based solutions for agricultural production, processing and utilization, disease management, automation, and other technical challenges. Extension activities include community-based IT training workshops and the provision of technical expertise and resource speakers for schools and partner organizations.
