The Department of Information Technology – Alangalang traces its roots to the Alangalang Agro-Industrial School, established in 1971 as a secondary agricultural school. It later expanded into tertiary education and eventually became part of the Visayas State University system.

As the campus diversified its academic offerings beyond agriculture, environmental studies, and teacher education, Information Technology emerged as one of its undergraduate degree offerings. Today, DIT-A is part of the Faculty of Computing following VSU’s organizational restructuring.

DIT-A offers the Bachelor of Science in Information (BSIT) program and serves students from Alangalang and neighboring communities in Leyte and the wider region. Its academic work centers on developing practical competencies in computing and information technology and providing students opportunities to apply their knowledge through laboratory work and academic activities.

DIT-A also encourages participation in activities beyond the classroom; in 2025, for example, its BSIT students participated in the national SIKAPTala Computer Science and Information Technology Collegiate Quiz Bee, with two first-year students placing sixth and tenth among 154 participants. Such activities complement classroom instruction by providing opportunities for students to strengthen technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and confidence in the broader computing community.
