VSU Faculty of Computing Strengthens International Ties with University of Danang, Vietnam

The Faculty of Computing (FOC) of Visayas State University (VSU) strengthened its international academic ties with the Software Development Centre (SDC) of the University of Danang, Vietnam, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on October 6, 2026, at the VSU RDE Breakout Room.
The partnership aims to promote academic collaboration, faculty and student mobility, and joint research initiatives in computer science and information technology. Representing SDC were Dr. Nguyen Ha Huy Cuong and Bảo Duy, who visited VSU to formalize the partnership and discuss opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions.
Strengthening International Academic Partnerships
The event opened with remarks from Dr. Jade Daphnee Z. Compendio, Director of the International Affairs and Relations Office, followed by welcome and felicitation remarks on behalf of VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, delivered by Dr. Glenn G. Pajares, Vice President for Planning and Development.
Dr. Magdalene C. Unajan, Head of the Department of Computer Science & Technology (DCST), presented an overview of the internationalization partnership between VSU and SDC. The signing of the MOU and MOA formally established the collaboration, providing a framework for academic exchanges, research partnerships, and professional development opportunities.
The event also featured research presentations from selected faculty members of the Department of Computer Science & Technology at VSU Main Campus, and Department of Information Technology at VSU Alangalang. The presentations highlighted the Faculty’s research initiatives and provided an opportunity to identify potential areas of collaboration with the visiting delegates.

Expanding International Learning Opportunities for Students
One of the key initiatives discussed was a two-week Student Immersion Program, scheduled for implementation during the Second Semester of Academic Year 2026-2027. The program will provide VSU computing students with practical experience in software development while exposing them to an international academic and professional environment.
The proposed activities include technical training, project-based learning, industry visits, and cultural exchange. Participating students will have opportunities to work on software development projects under the guidance of experienced mentors, particularly in information systems analysis and design, database design, and web and application development.
Through this initiative, the Faculty aims to provide students with learning experiences that complement classroom instruction while strengthening their technical competencies, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The program will also allow students to gain firsthand exposure to software development practices and workplace environments in Vietnam.
Strengthening Faculty Research and Professional Development
Faculty development and research collaboration were also among the major areas discussed, particularly the one-week Faculty Immersion Program scheduled for December 14-20, 2026, at the University of Danang, Vietnam.
The program will focus on strengthening faculty research capabilities through individualized mentorship sessions, specialized lectures, academic workshops, and industry visits. Participating faculty members will receive guidance on research project development, scientific manuscript preparation, and publication in international academic journals.
The immersion program will also provide opportunities for faculty members to establish professional connections with Vietnamese researchers, exchange research ideas, and explore potential joint studies in computer science and information technology.
Advancing Computing Education Through International Collaboration
The partnership supports the Faculty of Computing’s continuing efforts to strengthen instruction, research, and international engagement across its three departments. Through academic exchanges and collaborative activities, the Faculty seeks to broaden opportunities for students and faculty members to engage with international academic communities and industry professionals.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Jude B. Rola, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, followed by a campus tour for the visiting delegates.
With the formalization of the partnership and the upcoming implementation of the faculty and student immersion programs, the Faculty of Computing looks forward to sustained academic cooperation with the University of Danang. The collaboration represents another step toward expanding international learning and research opportunities while strengthening the Faculty’s commitment to quality computing education.
