Biography
Maricel V. Calhoun is an Assistant Professor at Visayas State University (VSU), a position she has held with increasing responsibility since June 2013. With more than 10 years of dedicated service at VSU, she has established herself as a committed educator focused on delivering high-quality instruction and continuous curriculum improvement. Her academic career is built on a foundation of computer science education and a passion for collaborative, student-centered learning.
She earned her Master of Science in Computer Science from AMA Computer College in 2009, following a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the same institution in 2003. Prior to joining VSU, she served as a Department Coordinator at AMA Computer College from 2006 to 2009, where she honed her skills in curriculum oversight, faculty supervision, and academic administration.
At VSU, Asst. Prof. Calhoun is known for her collaborative approach, working closely with colleagues to conduct regular curriculum reviews, develop teaching materials, and design innovative class projects. Her recent professional development has focused on expanding her technical expertise into cutting-edge fields, completing a comprehensive series of trainings on Open RAN, 5G mobile networks, cloud computing, edge computing, and AI/machine learning through the AORA (USAID) program. She is an active member of professional organizations such as the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) and the Analytics Association of the Philippines.
