Dr. Magdalene Cesar Unajan is an Associate Professor and the current Head of the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Visayas State University (VSU), a position she has held since January 2021. With a tenure at VSU beginning in June 2004, she brings over two decades of experience in academia and IT.

She earned her Doctor in Information Technology from the Technological Institute of the Philippines - Quezon City in 2020, following a Master in Information Technology from Cebu Institute of Technology - University in 2013, where she also completed her BS in Information Technology in 2003. Her doctoral research focused on advanced image segmentation algorithms, laying the groundwork for her applied research in computer vision.

Dr. Unajan's research is primarily centered on leveraging technology to solve practical problems in agriculture and security. She has authored and co-authored several publications on topics such as using neural networks for sweet potato variety recognition, developing convolutional neural network models for cacao disease detection, and securing Wi-Fi credentials with encryption and QR codes. Her work has been presented at international conferences in Hong Kong and Manila.

Beyond research, she is deeply involved in institutional and national initiatives. She serves as a technical resource person for the COMELEC's MIRU systems for national and local elections, demonstrating her expertise in high-stakes technical operations. She is also a certified International Computer Driving License (ICDL) holder and an active member of several professional organizations, including the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines (ICPEP) and the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE). Her commitment to education extends to training faculty and staff on Learning Management Systems (LMS), web accessibility, and interactive teaching strategies, shaping the digital learning landscape at VSU.
